MON 1ST OCT : WELCOME TO THE UNION
Congratulations, you are here! We want to make you feel welcome in your first days at QMU. Come over to the Union, relax in the bar and begin mingling with the hundreds of other new students that will soon become your friends!
MON 1ST OCT : FRESHERS' LAUNCH NIGHT £2
Welcome to QMU! You should have thrown your stuff in your room and now it's time to head down to the Union for a night of cheesy party music, student anthems and disco sounds. This is your chance to meet all your future friends!
TUES 2ND OCT : CHILL OUT JAZZ CAFE
A relaxing afternoon of jazz and blues music for you to enjoy while having lunch and chatting with friends old and new. Afterwards you could always go for a wander down to Musselburgh town and maybe treat yourself to a fish or mars bar supper!
TUES 2ND OCT : QM LAUGHTER LOUNGE £3
Looking for a laugh this Freshers' Week? Head down to the students' union's regular comedy night, showcasing four top comedians fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Prepare to heckle and to be heckled but above all prepare those belly laughs, you'll need them!
WED 3RD OCT: POSTER SALE
The Freshers' Poster Sale! A one-stop shop for all your poster goodness. Time to express yourself, and decorate those bland walls! Whether its Lindsay Lohan, 2 Pac, Johnny Depp or Harry Potter, you'll find what you want here. Running from 10-4 in the Sports Hall.
WED 3RD OCT: NITROGEN SKY + CLUB NIGHT £3
Edinburgh's finest covers band Nitrogen Sky playing indie/rock, they have been making waves across the UK supporting The Proclaimers and Eddie Reader. Then its off into the big city for a crazy night out!
THURS 4TH OCT : SCAVENGER HUNT
A day of adventure! Turn up at the union at any time to pick up your map & clues and head out to discover the treats and delights of Musselburgh from a local's point of view. Delicious desserts, majestic monuments and a little local culture. A great day to be had by all!
THURS 4TH OCT : SKOOL DISKO £2
No Freshers' week would be complete without a fabulous school disco. So remember to pack your school tie and white shirt and get ready to dance the night away to the best student anthems. Cheesy music and nostalgia guaranteed.
FRI 5TH OCT : A DAY AT THE RACES
We are asking you to pull on your best outfit and join us for a day at Musselburgh races! Whether a Lord or Lady you'll feel a million dollars at this glamorous event. Free entry to the races and our own marquee is a stone's throw from the from finishing line. LIMITED PLACES!
FRI 5TH OCT : HIGH RISE £4
The Union's new weekly alternative night is launched in style by XFM's finest DJs and QM residents. Get ready to rock out or tap along to the most eclectic sounds around. The height of cool.
SAT 6TH OCT : OUTDOR SPORTS + FOOTBALL
Join us on the Sports Centre Astroturf pitches for a football 5-aside tournament. Free entry, either turn up in a team or just turn up on the day and make up a team for the competition. We'll also be playing rounders, Frisbee and other sporting delights. This is a great way to meet people and have a laugh!
SAT 6TH OCT : FRESHERS' BALL £5
The Freshers event not to miss. Put on your most fabulous outfits and join us in the union for an evening of live jazz and the best DJs around. A professional photographer will be in attendance for you to get a memento of this wonderful night. Black tie a must!
SUN 7TH OCT : THE PUB CRAWL
Join us for our movie themed pub crawl. Dress as your favourite movie character & discover some of the best pubs in Edinburgh. Imagine Marilyn Monroe sipping pints standing next to Freddie Kruger & you get the idea for this must-do Freshers event. Meet at Union at 12pm. I.D. Required.
SUN 7TH OCT : THE PUB CRAWL FREE
Carrying on from the afternoon, the pub crawl should be in full swing by night time and you'll have the final night club to look forward to. Passport, Driving licence or Proof of Age I.D. necessary to attend.
MON 8TH OCT : FRESHERS' FAYRE
You must come to QMU's biggest ever Freshers' Fayre! Commercial companies, volunteering organisations and all QMU's Clubs & Societies will have stalls giving you opportunities, information and above all, A LOT OF FREE STUFF. Running from 10-4.
MON 8TH OCT : QM FACTOR £2
Not a karaoke night! This is QM Factor! Your chance to wow our most difficult judges (scarier than the real thing!) and walk away as winner of the best competition this freshers.
