New students at Queen Margaret University are being welcomed to the Honest Toun with free entry at the Edinburgh Holiday Race Day on Monday. (15 Sept).

As part of the Fresher’s Week celebrations, the racecourse is promising free entry to any QMU students who produces their university ID card at the gates.

Musselburgh also kicks off the Betfair Scottish Racing Fortnight which takes in nine meetings at Scotland’s five racecourses over the next two weeks. Punters can save up to £127 by purchasing a Betfair Badge for all nine meetings and qualify for a £50 free bet.

The East Lothian course hope attendance will be boosted with the meeting falling on an Edinburgh Monday holiday and the free entry offer to QMU students.

Musselburgh Racecourse commercial manager, Sarah Montgomery, said: “We all know that every penny counts when you are a young student starting your university life and thought offering free entry to Monday’s meeting would be a nice welcome present for all first year students starting at Queen Margaret University.

“Many of the fresher students won’t be aware of what Musselburgh as a whole has to offer so this is an introduction to the Honest Toun and its excellent racecourse.

“It’s also the Edinburgh September Monday holiday and for anyone not getting away for the weekend there are few better places to spend the day than at the races.”

Feature race of the day is the £12,000 Betfair Scottish Racing Fortnight Nursery Handicap. Gates open at noon, first race is off at 2.20pm and race goers can save £2 on the £15 admission price by booking online.

Children aged 16 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
