The Scottish Government have announced their intention to raise the drinking age to 21 in off-sales (i.e. supermarkets, convenience stores, and other 'off licences') across the country as part of their strategy to tackle Scotland's alcohol problem.
Whilst we strongly support efforts to encourage responsible drinking, we believe that raising the drinking age is not a useful method of tackling the core issues at play.
Age is not the real issue here. Culture is. The Scottish Government needs to do more to tackle the culture of irresponsible drinking that differentiates us from those countries where alcohol abuse is not such a problem.
CARDAS (Coalition Against Raising the Drinking Age in Scotland) will be responding to any Government consultation as such and would encourage you to do the same.
