WHO IS WATCHING YOU AND YOUR MONEY?!

How it works is a device is fitted to the cashline machine which will 'swipe' the magnetic strip and retain the information contained.  A minature camera can also be placed in the overhang of the machine to 'watch and record' you entering your pin number, although alterntively someone may watch over your shoulder for the same information.  A new replica card, or 'clone' is then produced and can be used to access the account.

Money is then drained from your account!!

Please please be careful when withdrawing money from cash machines.  If you suspect that your account has been tampered with please contact your bank immediately.  All cash points should have contact telephone numbers for this matter.

One fellow student's advice when using the machines is;

"When entering your pin ensure that you cover your pin entering hand with your spare hand/wallet/purse, so that no camera or person watching can see you enter your pin., and position your body between the pin pad and any people around. Also, should your card go into the machine slowly do not enter your pin as this is a possible sign of a card cloning device (exception to this is Clydesdale Bank machines as they are slow anyway). Finally, should you see anything suspicious about the machine walk away."
