Students and friends from the Drama and Creative Industries department held a protest on Friday 14/12/07 to outline their disappointment and frustration at the delays in their University building.
The long overdue development has had a serious impact on their studies, which students are becoming increasingly concerned about.
Connie Blackbourne, DCI student and protest coordinator said, "The managment of Queen Margaret University can no longer deny the serious impact that Re:Locate continues to have on students' education, and the mounting frustration that we are currently experiencing". We have been without an adequate study and performance facility for 12 weeks now and this is simply unacceptable!"
Students have had to study in various temporary and unsuitable locations throughout the city this semester.
One student said,"It is the lack of communication and information from the University that has left us all exasperated, we don't know from one week to the next where we will be studying and with our assessment period coming up and is very worrying".
Students protested for several hours on the main University square, sang Christmas carols with the lyrics alerted for the occasion, held placards and even had a mock canon on display for dramatic effect.
University management have agreed to hold talks with DCI students this week (w/c 17/12)
Thanks to all who attend and contributed to the protest - thanks to the Student Union and Catering department for the tea, coffee, soup and biscuits - keeping us warm on a cold winters day.
