In Edinburgh, Lothian Buses currently offer a 'student' discount in the form of the monthly ridacard scheme, but only student under the age of 25 are eligible to apply.
The Students' Union have been campaigning, along with other institutions in Edinburgh and NUS, since last year and are continuing their efforts to overturn this decision.
Lothian Buses state that they are currently being subsidised by the Scottish Executive to provide their discount and cannot extend this to students who are over 25 until they receive more funding.
The Scottish Executive believe that it is Lothian Buses who are responsible for distributing their own discounts, so the buck has been passed back and forth in typical political style.
The Students' Union plans to continue work with the other institutions and organisations in Edinburgh, as well as with the University to try and resolve this issue.
Please take 2 minutes to sign this petition which will be collated by Napier SU and addressed to Lothian Buses.
A motion is also going to NUS Scotland Council on 03/11/07 mandating NUS Scotland to lobby Lothian Buses on this matter - watch this space for an update.
