Introducing the Students' Union Staff

Saul Bertoletti - General Manager

Dear students,

I am Saul - The general Manager of the SU. I am the 'boring' guy who has to make sure that the book balance at the end of the year alongside managing staff, resources and, most importantly making sure that the union is run democratically and fairly by its elected officers.

I have been in post since August 2005 and I hoping to enjoy many years to come here at QM. A Student's Union GM's work is never done with many 'fab' ideas been thrown at you by students officers on a regular basis. I thoroughly enjoy working at QM and I pride myself to be part of what can be considered a 'little gem' amongst Unions in Scotland.

Michaela Woodhouse - Welfare and Support Coordinator

Hi,

My name is Michaela Woodhouse and I am your Welfare and Support Coordinator.

My job is to manage the R.A.W. (Rights, Advice and Welfare) Centre and to recruit volunteers to help run the centre.  If this sounds like something you are interested in and want more information then please get in touch mwoodhouse@qmu.ac.uk

I am here to assist you during your time at University with matters such as academic appeals and complaints, accommodation issues, financial matters, health issues and much much more.

In a nutshell I am here to look after your welfare during your time at university – if you need help with anything at all please come and see me.

I am also responsible for running the Unions campaigns, whether it is fund raising, awareness raising or both.

Campaigning is a great way for students to get the most out of their time at university – we can all come in and get a qualification but the life skills learned through engagement are priceless.

One aspect of the campaigns calendar – Campaign Supernova is the R.A.G.(raise and give) team.  This is a great opportunity to help others through a range of fun activities.

You can also volunteer your time to external organisations locally and nationally.

Neil Rolland - Student Development Coordinator

Hey,  

I'm Neil Rolland, your Student Development Coordinator. It is my job to help you get involved in your Students’ Union through representation and activities. If you are interested in becoming an MSP or want to know more about Sports & Societies, please get in touch at nrolland@qmu.ac.uk.

Representation is such an important part of University life, without your input it is impossible for the Union and the University to improve so please GET INVOLVED!  You really do have the power to change things and it only takes a little effort from yourself to get things started. I can help you through it all, so come in and have a chat.

You may have heard of “the Student Experience,” well I want to help you get the best student experience you can by facilitating non-academic activities. Whether you want to join a club/society or even start your own, come in and discuss it and I’ll see what I can do!

I also design the marketing and communication for the Union and manage this lovely website, so if you have any suggestions or comments, please get in touch!

Kate Bouchier-Hayes - Bar, Catering and Entertainment Manager

Alright folks? I’m Kate Bouchier-Hayes, your Bar, Catering and Entertainment Manager of the Students’ Union. I have worked in the Union for about five and a half years now, and have been manager for the past two years.I am a QMU graduate, and finally managed to get my degree in Media and PR last year(took me five years to do a three year course…took the scenic route).

Anyway my aim is to run a Union the QM students are proud of, where they can come into a safe, friendly environment and chill out and have some banter. The bottom line is folks, it’s your Union, and the more input you have in it the greater the chance is that it will be a place you actually enjoy, so feel free to come in and have a chat with myself or Phil and discuss how you want your Union to progress!

Carol-Anne Wightman - Finance Administrator

Hi

My name is Carol-Anne Wightman and I am the Finance Administrator for the Students’ Union.

You will find me in the Students’ Union reception and I can help with processing the finances for your clubs and societies. Basically I run an internal banking facility which includes the acceptance of pay-ins of cash and/or cheques to your non-core budgets. I can also provide cash or a cheque from either your core or non-core budgets on request and if you need to order goods for delivery, the Union can arrange for acceptance of delivery and send a cheque for payment of the Invoice.
