STaR Awards 2021

Our STaR Awards 2021 are dedicated to Douglas Mc Bean, former Programme Leader of the BSc Applied Pharmacology, who sadly left us in November 2020. Douglas was one of the most inspirational academic staff QMU has ever had. He dedicated much of his time to support students and help them graduate. Every year since we started the STaR Awards Douglas was nominated by students. We have therefore named our Most Inspirational Staff Award "The Douglas Award" in recognition of Douglas commitment to support students' success.

The following words summarise very well the impact Douglas McBean has had on students throughout his years of teaching here at QMU.

"With never ending words of wisdom, positive advice always on tap and a smile that never leaves his face as he walks through the building, Douglas is the only man for the award! My success in 4th year, is down to him. My never wanting to stop learning and researching, is down to him. He believes in you, when you don't have the energy to do so that week. At the start of 4th year he told us to enjoy it, and I did exactly that. It has been one of the most rewarding years of my life! Thank you"
