Disciplinary and Plagiarism

We understand that being suspected of misconduct (academic or behaviour) is difficult and stressful, regardless of your circumstances. Your Students’ Union staff are here to advise you on the process and support you during the full procedure. We will accompany you to all meetings and make sure you are treated fairly. Disciplinary meetings are not as scary as you might expect. Staff want to understand what has happened and will give you the opportunity to explain.

If you have been alleged to have plagiarised we will also advise you on where to get support to improve your academic skills.

Please note that the use of AI, Chat GPT, Essay Mills or sharing your work with another student, could all be considered plagiarism and the consequences can be serious.

These can include having your work marked as a 0 grade, having any resit capped, not being allowed a resit and (in extreme circumstances) being asked to withdraw from your course.

We would always advise the use of Turnitin before submitting assignments as this can help to highlight any accidental plagiarism and gives you the opportunity to rectify your work before submission.
