How do you feel about winning a STaR Award this year?

It is always interesting to receive constructive feedback (whether positive or negative!) from the students. The honours/research project is a crucial piece of work for our BSc Nutrition and Food Science students as it really helps students get a job at the end of their studies, and I suspect this is probably the case for most courses.

In general, given the challenging context that QMU staff have been facing it is crucial for students and staff to communicate properly and work together in solving potential issues so that students can keep the big picture in mind despite possible limitations and frustrations. Any initiatives that can help with this are always welcome!

What have you done/do you plan to do with your certificate and trophy?

I’ll keep it in the back of my mind as an example of good practise and try to apply this to other areas of my job! I’m not really one for awards but this type of feedback provided by the students as part of this process is very interesting to see if things are going the right way.

What do you enjoy most about your role at QMU?

It is very interesting to see students develop between their 1st year and last year, picking up the right skills and knowledge along the way to the point where they can actually contribute to a real piece of research work during their honours projects! I really enjoy when the teaching and research aspects overlap and effectively feed off each other, and good honours/research projects are key to this!
