Hi, I’m Zoë! I’m your President - Academic Life for the next academic year, I’m very happy to be here once more working within the SU and University. I’m here to represent the academic interests of the student population and make sure your time here at QMU is supported and fun! I’m so excited to be working with this year's Officers Committee and the University staff and committees to ensure the student experience is the best it can be! I sit on various committees and boards such as Court, Senate and Student Experience, to ensure that every student is advocated for and at the heart of the decision-making processes here at QMU.
You can get in touch with me through email, my social media or come pop up for a chat at the SU, the door is always open!

Hi everyone!
I'm Joe, your new President - Student Activities at QMU.
I'm so excited to have the honour of being your new President of SA this year, and I can't wait to start working with you all. I've stepped up from my role as Sports Officer, and I look forward bringing my experience and knowledge into the role. I'm really excited to see what all our amazing sports and societies get up to this year, and I want to help facilitate as much as possible to make YOUR university activities experience the best it can possibly be.
I want to be someone you feel you can approach any time and for anything, there is nothing I'm not up for having a chat about! If you want to start a new sport or society, enquire about any of our amazing activities, or just have a general chat, my door is always open to all students.
See you soon!
Feel free to contact your Student Officers if you have any questions. Please be aware that they are part-time and may not be able to respond to all emails. If your message is urgent or for general enquiries, contact union@qmu.ac.uk

Lok Pui Lo (she/her)
Black Minority Ethnic (BME) Officer - suofficers@qmu.ac.uk
I am Lok Pui Lo, a postgraduate student studying Participatory Arts, and your BME Officer for 2026-27.
Moving abroad and immersing myself in different cultures changed the way I see people, identity, and community. It made me reflect on what belonging really means, and how powerful it feels when people are given the space to be fully themselves.
As a multi-disciplinary artist and cultural producer, I use music, performance, film, spoken word, and community projects to bring people together through creativity and shared experiences. My work explores culture, connections, and the conversations that happen when people from different backgrounds meet openly and honestly.
As BME Officer, I want to help create a stronger sense of belonging within QMU through cultural exchange, honest dialogue, and community-led spaces. I also know I cannot represent every culture or speak for every experience. That is why I want this role to be collaborative. I want you to share your voices, ideas, and cultures openly, so we can shape a community that genuinely reflects all of us.

Bee Jansen (she/her)
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Officer - suofficers@qmu.ac.uk
I’m Bee, a fourth year Drama student. I’m queer, invisibly disabled and neurodivergent, so I know what it’s like to exist in ways the world can be hostile to, and I want to play a part in making sure everyone’s experience at QMU is more welcoming, more accessible and more supportive. As EDI Officer, everything I want to achieve is centred around advocating for and increasing the visibility of marginalised communities and creating an environment where we can be joyful and proud of who we are. If you have any suggestions, issues, concerns or you’d just like to talk to me about something, please get in touch – this role is nothing without listening to everyone I stand for!

Tatyana Velez-Bolivar (she/her)
International Officer - suofficers@qmu.ac.uk
Hello everyone! My name is Tatyana, and I am an international student from Canada currently studying an MSc in Occupational Therapy. I am so excited to be your international officer!
Whether this is your first year at QMU or your fourth, I understand the mix of emotions that can come with university life, excitement, nerves, homesickness, and everything in between. I am passionate about creating a supportive and inclusive international community where everyone feels comfortable being themselves, making new friends, trying new experiences, and creating memorable moments throughout the year.
This year, my goal is to help make that transition as smooth, welcoming, and fun as possible by providing resources, support, and opportunities for international students to connect, feel heard, and thrive. Whether you’re coming from just outside Scotland or from across the world, I want to help make QMU feel like your home away from home!!!

Alyssa Turcott (she/her)
Postgraduate Officer - suofficers@qmu.ac.uk
Hi everyone! My name is Alyssa and I’m excited to be your Postgraduate Officer for this academic year.
As a final-year MSc Occupational Therapy student, I know how life can get. Finding a way to balance work, family commitments, and recreational activities alongside your degree can make it difficult to engage with additional events or resources. For this reason, I want to find ways to make engagement as low-effort and accessible as possible by being a one-stop-shop for resources and opportunities and allowing you to choose what to take part in.
Additionally, transitioning into post-graduate-level studies after undergrad or full-time work can be difficult, so I’d like to facilitate this transition through social and academic events aiming to create a sense of support and connection. I’d love to shape this role around what you’d like to see, so please email or chat with me about any suggestions on how to best support your university experience 🙂

Liam Tait (he/him)
Societies Officer - suofficers@qmu.ac.uk
Hi, I’m Liam, a fourth-year drama student. Societies have been a massive part of my time here at QMU, so I am incredibly excited to be your societies officer for the next year!
I’ve been president of the Drama Society over the last two years, which has been super influential on me, plus it’s given me an insight into the day to day of running societies, so if you have any questions never hesitate to ask me!
In my time, I hope to be a welcoming presence for all societies within QMU. Feel free to chat to me when you see me around campus, and let me know what your society is doing throughout the year, and what you want to see from me as your societies officer!

Nia Walsh (she/her)
Sports Officer - suofficers@qmu.ac.uk
Hello everyone, my name is Nia, and I will be your Sports Officer this year.
I am beginning my second year at QMU as a psychology student and am a member of Basketball, Volleyball, and Run Club societies. I want sports at QMU to be something that everyone here can take part in and enjoy regardless of any constraints. Being in a sport adds so much to university experience and I am very excited to work with everyone to improve this experience even further.
I will be an open ear to all the sports teams and members to support them and also encourage those not in sports to take part in any way.
I am excited to get to know all of you and hope to make your experience with sports at university fun!

Benjey Melrose (he/him)
Student Voice Officer - suofficers@qmu.ac.uk
Hiya lovelies!
I’m Benjey, and I’ll be your Student Voice Officer throughout the 2026/27 season! I’m currently studying Business Management & Digital Marketing, and am going into my second year.
During my time as your Student Voice Officer, I want to ensure that everyone feels they have a say, and they are able to raise anything they feel necessary to the Students' union. I also want you to know that I’m happy to chat anytime, whether it’s in person or online 😊
I’m especially looking forward to some of the coming events across the course of this year, and of course, hearing form all of you!

Colin Slattery (he/him)
Wellbeing Officer - suofficers@qmu.ac.uk
Hi, I’m Colin, and I’m thrilled to return as your Wellbeing Officer for this year.
I’m in the final year of my undergraduate degree in Performance here at QMU. Having served as your Wellbeing Officer last year, I’m ready to hit the ground running to make sure that every single student has the best possible experience. The Students’ Union is a fantastic space, and I’ll be working hard to keep it a supportive, inclusive, and thriving environment for everyone.
When you see me around campus, please stop and say hello. I genuinely love hearing how your year is going and what you’re up to, no matter what programme you’re on. Whether you need a point in the right direction for university wellbeing services, want a heads-up about our upcoming events, or are just looking for a chat, I’m here for you.
I’m incredibly proud to represent the QMU community again - let’s make this academic year a great one!
