Reaching new peaks with QMU

Last week Joe Agnew, who is currently in his second year of Psychology and Sociology, competed in the BUCS Cycling Hill Climb Championships in Leicestershire. He did not make a podium spot unfortunately, but he really enjoyed the day and proudly represented QMU while he was there.

Here is what he told us about the experience:

“On 4th November I was down in Nottingham representing QMU at the BUCS cycling hill climb championships. The race itself didn't go as planned for me, but to be in amongst the best student cyclists in the country was a very satisfying experience and has left me hungry for success in the upcoming 2024 season.

Without the help of the Students' Union, in particular Louise and Emma, my participation in the event wouldn't have been possible. They were instrumental in helping me organise entry and logistics for getting all the way down to Nottingham, leaving me able to concentrate on my own performance.

Lastly, I'd also like to say a big thank you to the running and cycling society at QMU. We are a small uni, and an even smaller society, but our close-knit group is fully supportive of each other, no matter what your goal is. Whether you're new or experienced, slow or fast, there's something for you in our society, and it's such a nice feeling to be a part of something where everyone supports each other no matter what.”

We wish Joe lots of success in his future races and look forward to see him on the podium soon!
