There was much discussion in the sector last year about graduation fees and a huge campaign to make it free to graduate for all students. There were concerns that this may lead to fees being hidden elsewhere so here at QMU we took the opportunity for the Students’ Union and the University to work together to find a solution that works best for our students.

 

As the most important day of the year for the majority of our students, it’s essential that it runs smoothly and that our graduates and their guests have a memorable day. This takes the form of the hire of the Usher Hall for the ceremony and the use of University Square for a free reception.

 

In order to cover the costs of this, QMU have previously charged a £45 fee to graduate and issued three free guest tickets for the ceremony and reception. This year the system is changing. There will now be no fee charged by the University for any student to graduate. Tickets for the ceremony will be administered directly from the Usher Hall at a cost of £15 each (plus £1.50 booking fee). Students will be able to purchase a maximum of 3 guest tickets.

 

This new system will benefit students who will be able to book guest tickets directly through the venue and will receive instant confirmation of their booking. Students who choose not to attend Graduation will not have to pay any fees in order to receive their award certificates. It will also reduce the administrative load on QMU while still enabling us to ensure that all of our students have the opportunity to attend a very special graduation day.

 

Detailed information on Graduation arrangements and instructions on how to register for Graduation and purchase guest tickets will be emailed to eligible students from the Registry in May 2020.
