Drama

We’ve had an incredible start to semester 2 on every front! In January we performed our panto, The Little Mermaid, selling out every show and putting on one of our best productions to date! This month we entered two teams into the Scottish Community Drama Association’s One Act Play Festival, with both plays winning an Audience Choice Award, and we’ve had some fun socials as well with our video game quiz and a Goes Wrong Show movie night. Our sessions have been back in full swing and we’ve been having a lot of fun, most recently with the first of two scratch nights for our members to present their own writing. Rehearsals for our spring show, Romeo and Juliet, are also well underway and we’re excited to see it coming together!

Paramedic Society

In semester two QMU's paramedic society were kept very busy. The month started off with a visit from our colleague based at Health In Mind. This helped provide our members with the tools they require to help regulate their emotions and how to help assist our patients too who struggle with their emotions.

In February, the ParaSoc took a trip to Tollcross Fire Station in Edinburgh where we got shown around different fire appliances based at the station, given information on what our colleagues at Scottish Fire and Rescue do and what we as student paramedics can do to assist them at scenes! Finally, last week a few members of our society attended a showcase day at William Purves funeral directors in Marchmont. We were very lucky to do this and got shown the process of Embalming, the logistics behind planning a funeral, and what we as paramedics can do to support families who are going through bereavement.

Overall, it has been a great semester so far for ParaSoc and we are so excited for our future plans including Grand Ball, more CPD events and taking part in a joint venture with Stirling University's paramedic society to plan a major incident scenario day.

B.ART.A

February was a standout month for B.ART.A! On 25th February, we hosted our most successful karaoke of 2026, bringing members together for a night of big vocals and even bigger energy. We also celebrated the 20th anniversary of High School Musical with a special screening, a clear fan favourite, with one member even repping iconic Wildcat merch. We rounded off the month with a bowling social, marking the first time we were able to treat our members to an activity night, filled with laughter and friendly competition, before ending the night at NQ64. Overall, February was terrific for us, and we can’t wait to see you at our next karaoke on 13th March!

Much love,

The B.ART.A Commitee xoxo

Afro-Caribbean Society

The African-Caribbean Society successfully relaunched in Semester 2, welcoming a host of new members into our growing community. We have also established our presence on social media with new Instagram and TikTok platforms to help keep members engaged and informed.

As part of our reintroduction, we organised a Valentine-themed welcome event titled “Rooted in Love and Vibes”, which proved to be a huge success. The event recorded an attendance of 30 participants, all of whom enjoyed an evening filled with great music, positive energy, and a strong sense of community.

We would also like to take this opportunity to nominate Ifaenyichi-Ijere Victoria in recognition of the vital role she played in the success of our first event, as well as for stepping up to take on an Executive Committee position that has positively impacted the organisation.

Pool Society

The QMU Pool Society has enjoyed an incredibly positive and productive year so far. Establishing a new society was never going to be straightforward, and we anticipated challenges along the way. However, despite the inevitable learning curves and occasional bumps in the road, we have built something that is not only sustainable but genuinely thriving.

Weekly attendance has remained strong and consistent, reflecting the commitment of our members and the welcoming culture we have worked hard to create. Our structured pool league continues to grow in both quality and competitiveness. As we move through Semester Two, the standard of play has noticeably increased, with the top seven players currently separated by only a narrow margin — creating one of the most exciting title races we could have hoped for. Every week matters, and that intensity has elevated the atmosphere on league nights.

Beyond weekly sessions, we have also focused on expanding our impact. This semester has already seen one highly successful fundraiser, demonstrating both member engagement and our ability to organise events that extend beyond regular fixtures. With another fundraiser approaching, we are continuing to build momentum while strengthening the society’s financial sustainability.

Unfortunately, one of our strongest competitors, Joe, has had to withdraw from the league due to unforeseen circumstances. While this is disappointing from a competitive perspective, his contribution to the society throughout the year has been greatly valued, both on and off the table.

We have also introduced new themed league nights to enhance the social side of the society. Our first themed event, held on Pancake Day, was a real success and brought a different energy to the usual format, reinforcing that QMU Pool Society is about more than just competition — it is about community, creativity and enjoyment.

Overall, the society continues to grow in confidence, structure and reputation. What began as a new and ambitious project has developed into a competitive, organised and welcoming community that is making a meaningful contribution to student life at Queen Margaret University.

Costume Society

Semester two is sure to get busy at costume society. We have a few events planned to help relax our exam stressed members. With final submission for some of our members we always encourage to come along well be there waiting to help with any project that they need.

Food Pantry

This semester, the Food Pantry has truly thrived during our weekly meetings. It has been incredible getting to know both our regular faces and new members, and watching our community feeling grow stronger than ever. We are thrilled to build on that momentum by hosting our first social and fundraising event of the year: our now-annual Pub Quiz!

Music Society

Our first semester back up and running as QMUs Music Society has been busy!

We've had our weekly 'jam-out' sessions every Thursday and two open Mic Nights at Maggie's!

We're now in the process of organising a social for March: perhaps something along the lines of a pub quiz or a karaoke night with one of our sponsors in town! We're always eager to welcome new members, no matter your musical ability! If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, please don't hesitate to get in touch!

Muslim Society

We had a potluck Iftar last week and we have one planned for today. Since everyone is away from their family and friends and here at uni, we decided to break our fasts together and bring that feeling or community and familiarity right on campus for Muslim students away from home.
