Jillian Mackay has been our Welfare Officer for the past two years. She is currently in her last year of Applied Pharmacology. Here's why she has chosen to become a part-time Officer.

Why did you choose to run for your position as Welfare Officer?

I chose to run for the position of Welfare Officer because I was interested in and passionate about student welfare at QMU! I also wanted to make the most of my time at university by being involved in something out-with academics. Being involved with QMUSU is a great way to do this!

What have you gained from your experience as a Student Officer?

I have gained so much from being a student officer. I’ve gained skills such as better communication and organisation whilst also increasing my confidence. But as well as these, I’ve gained some amazing friendships, had amazing experiences and made great memories with great people!

What advice would you give to students who are considering running in this year’s elections?

My advice would be to go for it! The elections can seem scary, but it is definitely so worth it!
