Sports & Societies

QMUSU have today (16^th March 2020) made the decision to suspend all formal Sport and Society activity , in light of the coronavirus pandemic. This includes all sports training sessions, fixtures, team and society meetings, fundraisers and events.

All committees should take time to consider their current bookings, and future plans, and ensure that unnecessary costs are not incurred. Committee elections will still take place, and the Vice-President will be in touch to discuss how these can go ahead further down the line. 

QMUSU have also been reviewing upcoming large events, and are currently pursuing the following course of action: 

 

Varsity

After discussions with sponsors, partners and the venue, as well as government advice, QMUSU and Team Napier have taken the decision to cancel the 2020 Varsity Challenge Tournament, as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

 

Grand Ball

We are uncertain at the moment whether or not the QMUSU Sports and Societies Grand Ball (scheduled for 15^th April 2020) will go ahead. We continue to work with the Corn Exchange and follow Government guidance. More information will be sent out when we have it however there is a commitment to ensuring that no students are left out of pocket with regard to tickets whatever the outcome for the event is.

 

Fixtures

ALL sporting fixtures and arrangements will be postponed, or cancelled. QMUSU are waiting on a response from BUCS & SSS regarding how things move forward, however sport sabbatical officers have met virtually to discuss a shared response, and agreed that domestic fixtures will be cancelled, with the view to voiding to ensure no team receives an unfair benefit. We expect a statement from BUCS clarifying the position of leagues and league structures in the next 24 hours.
