QMU Students’ Union is delighted to announce the formal recognition by the university of a Sports Exemption Policy, which is now live. The Sports Exemption Policy allows students to sign themselves out of classes and not have their attendance affected. Students may use this exemption to compete on behalf of the university in approved competition such as BUCS or SSS competitions. Furthermore, students competing on behalf of their countries (international students included) are able to utilise this policy.

Absence from class must first be approved by a lecturer and is dependent on a students’ prior attendance. If a student is already below the required threshold of attendance, then their absence may not be approved.

This policy also applies to any relevant coaches, first aiders, or team members who are not playing/competing, but are essential to the running of the team. It does not apply to people who wish to go and spectate.
