The Students’ Union has become aware of a situation where graduation footage has been digitally altered to censor a student’s freedom of expression in showing solidarity to the people of Palestine.

In October the Students’ Union agreed to a joint statement with the University to express sympathy to all people currently experiencing hurt and pain from the current conflict in Gaza. The Students’ Union is deeply disappointed that a student’s voice in demonstrating their solidarity has been censored and would urge the University to reconsider its approach.

As the conflict continues we want to express our sympathies to all students with friends or family affected by the war and encourage any student who needs support to engage with the appropriate services. Our HelpZone is always available to students looking for support and the Universities student support services are also available.

Your Students’ Union Presidents,

Jay & Silvia
