Hello Freshers!

We are almost at the end of week 1 of our 3-week Welcome to QMU Programme in collaboration with ResLife and we’ve loved meeting you all! We’ve had Cool Creatures on campus (including a meerkat and an albino snake!), Speed Friending sessions, a yoga class and loads of free food! We have more activities planned throughout September and we would love to see you there. These are great opportunities to safely get to know fellow students, bond with your flatmates and get your bearings at QMU. Check out our Facebook page and website calendar to see what’s happening, and book your slots for the activities you want to come to.

We’re sure you’ll be both nervous and excited to start your classes in the next couple of weeks. We are here to support you with any academic or personal matters through the HelpZone and we will be around campus or on social media @QMUSU if you have any questions. If you want an appointment with us for anything in particular, you can book one here. We will also be operating our C:Card service (free condoms!) outside our office, so just pop up and grab what you need.

Our office is located above Maggie’s, our campus Bar & Café, which has deals available between 5pm and 7pm for the rest of September if you want to grab a bite before or after class!

Sports and Societies are also returning! We’re working hard to bring you opportunities to join our S&S programme under relevant government guidance. From 21 September we will be promoting our different sports teams and societies, and the various ways in which you can get involved. Outdoor sport will return alongside most societies in one form or another, however indoor sports are still not approved to return under Scottish Government guidance, with further updates set to come on 5 October. Joining a sport or society has been proven to increase wellbeing and employability, so why not get involved!

As you may be aware, the Scottish Government has issued new guidelines today which will be mandatory from Monday 14 September. These are going to limit both outdoor and indoor gatherings to 6 people from 2 households; please observe these guidelines, which may be different from those in your home country. It’s also important that you download NHS Scotland’s Test & Protect app, designed to help us protect each other, reduce the spread of coronavirus and avoid further lockdowns.
