Description

Drama Society is a place to have fun, relax and create theatre with other people who love drama just as much as you. We are defined by our members, students from any course and any amount of experience. All that you need is a love for drama and commitment to what you do!

Our weekly Wednesday sessions focus on drama and improv games and putting together short devised and scripted scenes, with loads of opportunity to perform to the rest of the society. We work towards a panto in December and a big spring show near the end of Semester 2, where our creative team and crew are all society members – everyone has the opportunity to help bring performances to life even if being onstage isn’t for you. We also enter teams into the Scottish Community Drama Association's One Act Play Festival in the spring, and hold both internal and external showcases of short pieces created by our members. And we are hard at work on more exciting things for this year...

We are an amazing community that have pulled together to create some impressive work, including our sold out self-written panto Cinderella, award-winning play Eisd Ri Glaodh Na Feannaig for the SCDA One Act Play Festival, and most recently our most challenging spring production yet, Sense and Sensibility. We will carry that forwards to create even more amazing work and memories.

A photo of the Drama Society all together. The 24/25 committee sit on the floor, and behind them stand two lines of members. Everyone is grinning widely. On the left is a large group with their arms round each others shouldes and in the middle a man and a woman stand back to back in a Charlie’s Angels pose. They are all in casual summery clothes. They are in the black box.A photo of Sense and Sensibility being performed. On the left of the photo, a young White woman with bleached blonde hair is standing next to a young White man with black hair. She is turning her head to the left so it is in profile to the camera to look at him, kindly but somewhat tiredly and sadly, and clasps her hands at her waist. He stands in profile to the camera with an awkward posture and looking at her with an awkawrd expression, and stiffly holds his hands at his waist. On the right of the image, not far from the pair, a young White man with curly blonde hair and a young White woman with ginger hair are standing, leaning towards the young man each with an outstretched arm and looking at him so their faces are in profile to the camera. The woman stands in front of the man and has an energetic, imploring expression while the man has an affable smile. They are all in Regency dress. The man with black hair wears a navy coat with large gold buttons and gold trim on the cuffs over a pale green-blue cravat and waistcoat, white shirt and dark grey pinstripe trousers. The blonde woman's hair is in a grown-out pixie cut, and she wears a black dress with fitted sleeves that puff at the shoulder. It has a white rose pattern and white lace at the cuffs and neckline. The ginger woman's hair is also a grown-out pixie cut, and she wears a green dress with short puff sleeves and a gold necklace with a small pendant. The blonde man wears a light grey top hat, ochre wool coat, grey pinstripe trousers and a garish red and green cravat over a white shirt. They stand against the thick black curtains separating the stage from the wings, and a bright red stripe of curtain is visible behind the man with the black hair.A photo of Eisd Ri Glaodh Na Feannaig being performed. A young White woman stands imposingly looking down at a young White man who is on the ground backing away from her. The set is minimal but creates a strong effect, with a jagged boulder on the left behind the man and a disembowled torso on the stage on the right. The man and woman are both in profile to the camera. The woman has loose brown hair that reflects a pink-toned light, and wears a silky black cloak over a torn green dress. She stands powerfully, her gaze fixed on the man. The man has floppy dark blonde hair and wears a black tunic with gold braid down its fitted lower sleeves, and dark grey trousers. He is brandishing a short sword with one arm and supporting himself with the other and looking, afraid, directly at the woman. Just in front of the woman’s feet is a low, dark silhouette that looks like another boulder. The background is black. The lighting is a low, cool-toned pink.A photo of Cinderella being performed. The cast sit in rows on the floor and on a rostrum behind the first row, as if in a primary school class. In the first row sit a young White woman with a shocked expression and her hands in her lap, pixie cut ginger hair wearing orange, white and blue patterned overalls with an oversized sparkly gold button sewn to the front over a black T-shirt; a kneeling young White woman with her hands clasped in her lap and her eyes shut happily wearing a shiny dark blue skirt, pale blue blouse, blue bandana over her curly black hair and blue eyeshadow; a young White man looking up intently with his legs crossed and one leg upright, resting his arm on that leg, with floppy sandy hair and wearing a long-sleeved Hawaiian shirt, black trousers, rainbow socks and pale mushroom-coloured shoes; and a young White man with black hair looking down at the other man fondly with his hands in his lap, wearing a black, brown and white sleeveless sweater, white short-sleeved shirt and pale brown slacks. He is sat in a wheelchair with a green frame, yellow push rims and rainbow spokes, and is only half in frame. In the next row back sit a young White woman with long dark blonde hair and her hands in her lap, wearing a pink and white striped blouse and pale blue flowery skirt; a young White woman with long black hair and her hands in her lap, wearing a bright green and yellow sports shirt and black trousers; and a young White person with short, dark hair, hunched forwards slighlty, wearing a bright red and black graphic T-shirt and bright orangey-red trousers with a white design on them. This row is sat between two flats. Standing in the next rown back, on the rostra, the legs of a White person in a garish orange with gold floral print dress are visible. The background and floor are black.
