QMU 1 - 0 Napier 2's

What a game! QMU have left the first blow on Napier this uni year. If this isn’t a sign of what’s to come at Varsity next March, I don’t know what is, but a statement has been left!

Within the first minute QMU seemed dangerous with an attack that led to a Cammy shot from the edge of the box. However it went sky high and almost cleared the Meadowbank building itself.

From then it was a cagey affair with neither team finding a foothold in the game. QMU did pop up with chances however. Loui, still desperate to equal Aidan’s (VP) goal scoring record for QMU, took a pop from 30 yards out, which rattled off the crossbar. Had it been an inch lower he had the goalie beat.

Jude also found himself with a chance from inside of the box. Sam picked him out with a lovely cross from the left, however Jude must’ve took shooting lessons from Cammy as the ball flew over the fence. Aside from that, not much happened and the first half ended 0-0.

Into the second half and QMU carried on their attacking momentum which eventually led to a chance. Great play on the right between Musab, Roland and Jude allowed the Ginger Ninja to whip the ball in. It was met beautifully by Ross and nestled in to the top corner. What a bullet. Ross made sure Napiers VEO camera saw that one! 1-0!

From then on, the last thirty minutes became a case of seeing the game out. Our defensive line of Jude, Shane, DC and Marco made sure Napier didn’t get a sniff. If Napiers front three don’t show up to class tomorrow, I reckon you check our defence’s back pockets.

Subs, Gurbinder and Blair made an impact just allowing the game to be seen out. With all eleven men behind the ball it was going to be hard for Napier to break us.

However, there was a last minute free kick for Napier from 25 yards out. We set up our wall from 17 yards out and managed to block the free kick from going anywhere near the goal. A well set up wall by James. From the clearance the full time whistle sounded.

An absolutely well deserved win the for the mighty QMUnits. Every member of the squad had a huge role to play in holding on to the victory. See you next March xx 🍒
