Stirling 6s match report

QMU 0 - 3 Stirling 6's

A tough loss to take for the mightily handsome QMUnits. The game started positively with the ball being played well around our midfield and attack. However much we tried though, we couldn’t find any real breakthrough.

We did have a few chances. Johnie turned on the ball from 20 yards out, took a quick shot to try and catch the keeper out. However the keeper saved well. Lewis also saw his name up in lights with a 25 yard effort but again the goalie flew across to meet it. A half full of half-chances.

Down the other end of the pitch, Dave was happy to be back in nets, only for him to roll his ankle five minutes in. Injuries; one of the downsides of being an old man. This meant James moved from centre half back in between the sticks. Thankfully, he was still on top form and pushed a brilliant 1v1 opportunity for Stirling onto the post.

After a tight 0-0 in the first half, the second 45 minutes got under way. This is where it begun to unravel for QMU. Despite still playing some very good football, Stirling broke the deadlock. A ball played through was well defended by Jude, however, the ball ricocheted off the Stirling attacker, allowing him to square it into the middle for his teammate to tap it home.

Ten minutes later, Stirling got their second. James unfortunately decided to treat the ball like a hot potato from a cross, it landed at a Stirling attacker who had the easy job of poking it into an empty net.

With 10 minutes left, QMU thought they had a goal back. An audacious shot from outside the box from Marco was parried by the keeper into the path of Sam. He slid in to force it home, however his trailing hand caught the ball as it was going in the net and the goal was ruled out.

With a few minutes left, Aidan decided to attempt a defensive Roly-poly on a through ball to a Stirling attacker but it was calmly slotted away to make it 3-0.

All in all, we can’t be too disappointed with our performance. Injuries and reading week hampered us but, it was clear to see, that QMU are going to be a tough team to beat this season. Plaudits go to our Tom Daley of the team, Cameron Frew who deservedly was crowned our MOTM 🤿
